Welcome to our first networking event!
Haere mai and welcome, to our first networking opportunity in real time!
Inspired by your online conversations in the Kapiti Arts & Creative Industries group, I wanted to create an opportunity for some in-person interaction too. Space to put a face to the name, find out about what others are doing in their creative practice, time to socialise away from our studios (some might say hibernation caves), space to meet some creative colleagues and possibly identify some collaboration or trade of services opportunities, and if nothing else, just an opportunity to do something different mid week with like minded people. :) Come along and see where that journey takes you...join the Facebook group if you haven't already, and click on the event invite to RSVP. Anzil have very kindly offered to stay open later than usual, especially for our group. They have a great menu and drinks list and we are sure to be looked after. The partnership between tourism, food & hospitality sectors and the arts and creative industries is complimentary. We all need each other. What makes it possible though is the vision and support of businesses like Umbrella Multimedia and Lindale Village to help get our first networking meeting off the ground. Thanks guys!
In addition to the networking meeting itself, there will be an opportunity to explore Lindale between 4:30 -5pm, meet some of the creative business owners (one of who might be interested in sub-leasing to another creative business) and become familiar with what they offer. Lindale is emerging as a hub for creative industries and thanks to support-in-kind from Umbrella Multimedia and Lindale, I'll be based there a couple of days a week too. I have a vision for our region to be recognised as a leading creative industries destination that supports creative practitioners to achieve their full creative & business potential, enriching all our lives in the process and being a key driver of our regional economy. That means, a strong creative eco-system, populated by lots of different levels of skills, knowledge, experience, connections, and learning and development opportunities. From which we can leverage collective strength, opportunities for collaboration, marketing, and success - both the creative and the business kind. Creating sustainable incomes where creative practice pays the mortgage or rent is a key goal, and yes, I've been there done that as a musician.
One way of delivering this vision, is networking events with guest presenters from the group, sharing tips (and maybe opportunities), and I'm excited to have two fabulous guest presenters at our first networking event:
Michelle Lovi, who works with Umbrella Multimedia based at Lindale Village as their Publisher/Communications Specialist, also owns and manages Oyssey Books, a global publishing business from her home in Waikanae Beach. If you have ever thought about publishing anything, Michelle will be a good 'go to' person.
Dick van den Oever, is a master audiovisual producer and director who founded Captured Essence over 20 years ago and has produced a fabulous series of video interviews with artists, some in this group. Video is the single best way to promote your creative services and products - but being in front of the camera is pretty scary when you would much rather be behind it. Dick will share some tips for us, and help get us thinking about ways it can add value to what we do.
Bring your brochures, business cards, if you have them as we'll have a display table available. And I'll look forward to meeting you, and welcoming you in person to our group!
